ok just wondering cause i might be getting one in a few days. but what kind of 4x4 switch does a 1993 ranger have? is it the hand lever or just the switch on the dash? and also it has the 3.0 v6 and ive only read negative about them on here. whats so bad about them?

The 93 could have had either the manual transfer case or the electric switch transfer case.

and the 3.0 isnt BAD. its just not as powerful as the 4.0.

you almost never hear anything bad about a 3.0. just under powered, but it beats a 4cyl!

Itll most likely have the pushbutton, manuals arent all that common especially with the 3.0 from what I understand. But if you find a manual seperately swap it in immediately. Otherwise start readin the tech articles on auto 4x4 maintenance.

only bad thing i have to say about a 3.0 is: that i dont have one lol

its a really reliable engine man. it might be not that powerful(compared to others in the 3-4 litre range) but its a good engine.

if u can swap those electric 4wd hubs for manual hubs and give maintenance to the electric t-case regulalry

How far is churchill from knoxville? I know someone familiar with welding auto hubs, who might be willing to instruct you in converting to fulltime lock. Or maybe he can teach me how lol, I dont like volunteering people.

church hill is about 2 hours from knoxville. its right past rogersville and right before you get to kingsport. im actually getting the truck from a guy in knoxville haha.

PM me your number, Ill tell you where pull a part is and you can get two extra auto hubs, im in dandridge and you can leave them with me and ill take them to him for you. We can meet back somewhere(prolly morristown) a little later. Of course after I make sure I can follow through with something like that LOL.

I'd give it a 50/50 chance on manual or auto 4x4. 93's weren't overly electronic like modern ones, but it was starting to move that way.

As for the 3.0, they aren't bad engines. Most of the people who bash them are either 2.9 or 4.0 owners, and the sad truth of it is that liter per liter the Vulcan just doesn't stack up against the Colognes. It's mostly in the piston angle and valving though. The 2.9 and 4.0 make their peak power fairly low in the RPM range, about 1500 RPM which is a good thing in a truck engine. The 3.0 by comparison makes peak power and efficiency up above 2000 RPM, which makes it a good quick engine, but not as good at starting off heavy loads.

If you want this truck for a grocery getter and hauling light loads, wood, lawn mower, helping friends move, etc the 3.0 is just fine. If you want to try and use it like I do, which is to say doing things that should really be getting done with an F-150, the 3.0 isn't as good a choice.
