Hi All,

I'm thinking of replacing my 96 Ranger with a new one. At the time they didn't offer an automatic with the 4, it was slow enough with the stick. I like the gas mileage but am tired of shifting gears. Has anyone driven a new/recent Ranger with the 4 and automatic?

I put on lots of miles a year and gas mileage is important. I don't do any towing; just an all around transportation vehicle.

Thanks,

John in Taxifornia

I have a 2008 2.3 automatic and it is just fantastic, Go for it.

Well, they actually did offer an auto with 4 cylinder in 1996, but anyway...The new 4 cylinders are awesome. I've driven one at work many miles and it is very peppy and kind of fun to drive. Not exactly a race car, but can move out of it's own way. Way better than the 4 cyl S10s. It has over 200k miles and still runs like it's brand new. And this one has been abused about every single day. If Ford offered it in 4wd, I would've gotten one instead of a V6. Go test drive and see how you like it.

ive had my 2010 2.3L for about 4-5 months and for never having a truck before its awsome. deffinately fun to drive and does good on long trips. go drive one then buy it.

I have a 2010 Supercab XLT 2.3/auto and I get 22-24 mpg driving 75% city and 25% hwy driving. Not fast by any stretch of the imagination but a nice ride.
