Ok i'll rephrase my question, I'm looking to do a 5.0 swap. What will be the easiest and best motor to swap in and tranny.:icon_confused: My truck is a 1999 2.5L, 5-speed and 2wd. The truck will be street only, besides the occasional dirt road or two. Thank you For the help.:icon_thumby:

And what parts am i going to need and where to find them. Thanks again

IMHO, for a 2 WD truck it would be hard to beat the '91-'93 Mustang 5.0s good basic power and higher revs than other setups.

A lot of people get the V-8 Explorer setups because of the GT40 Heads, the Front Pulley setup being closer to the engine (allowing for a mechanical fan) and good low end torque.
Since your truck is 2 WD then most often you will need to find a transmission when using the Explorer setup.

Think it through, recheck the parts and recheck, get it together before hand.

Added: I have been informed that you need an Explorer Harness from a newer Explorer for this swap, something to do with the computer interaction, I will have to back away here because I do not know for sure and will need to investigate further.

That answered my question, Sell my ranger and buy an S-10.

:icon_rofl: If you give up this easily, then don't bother with a V8 swap in anything. :icon_rofl: You'll end up with a good truck on blocks in the front yard. :tease::icon_rofl:

Sure sorry you feel that way. If you had a '97' you could put even a 460 in it, you're limited in what you can do with any later truck with the OBDII systems.
Have a nice day!

I know im limited, thats why im not doing it. I have a 1985 toyota 2wd. I converted it to 4wd with 79 yota axles stuffed with 5.29's and lockers front and rear. turning 42" tsl's was a struggle for the tired 22r.
So I needed a heart transplant, my buddy happened to have a 307ci(from a nova) we built the motor for low end, then put it in my yota, TH350 tranny but still ran yota tran case with some adapters.

Thats just the recent project, b4 that was 87 F-250 with a badass 4.9 I had laying around. It only had D60's front and rear with 39.5's( i would've rather went duece and a halfs)

The list goes on, I have 2 older model S-10's layin in the yard. I got into racing and 4wd turned me off. So i want something faster. I have my lil ranger(avatar daily gas getter) and was gonna slam it with a 5.0. I wanted to check around and figure out which would be easier to swap and build. I'm sorry but the S-10 won.I have more chvey parts readily available. I'm not biased in what i drive. It dont have to be a ford, chevy, or mopar. Its what i can get the most use out of with what i have.

I don't question anybodys abilities to swap motors, axles, bodys, anything. The only way to learn is to do it. Thats why i encourage ppl to get out and "modify" their vehicles according to what they want to do.

Baddad457, I really hope You dont discourage everybody that comes in here tryin to find info. Obviously your a badass and know more than everybody else. And im not sending a personal attack torwards you in anyway. Hopefully you can actually help somebody instead of put them down.

Mac and scrambler, Thank you for giving me the info i needed. I would send ppl that needed help that i didnt know to yall.

there now i feel better.

Hey no problem here, just only so much you can do with the newer Rangers. Have fun with your new project and enjoy.

.

Put you down ? Who, Me? :icon_rofl: The reason some of us come down on guys like you is you come in here with 500 questions at once, without ever having taken the time to do some research first. It's patently obvious with the multiple questions that you haven't taken the time to do at least some leg work and reading. And the other reason for the "tough love" is that if you're not willing to do some homework, then you're also not willing to do what's neccessary to complete a swap. And None of us want to see you end up with a good vehicle in pieces, up on blocks in the yard. I DO help those who show a willingness to help themselves. You obviously didn't do that in this thread, hence the reply you recieved. :buttkick: I'm not going to sugar coat the facts here and sucker newbies into something they don't show the apptitude to accomplish. If you don't like me, fine, I could care less.:yahoo: Enjoy your S10 swap. :icon_thumby:

well i am sorry to see you discouraged, as i feel the same as you, though i do prefer the fords really. while my favorite engine is a 340 the 6.0 gm has risen up to the 351 status real quick.

i suggest a 5.3 or 6.0 powertrain for what you intended.....and awd.

In my view, anyone coming to a Ford forum asking uneducated questions who claims they're off to build some jap or gm is just asking to be flamed and heckled. It's like the kid that picks their nose during class and gets mad when the other kids call em "gross".
