Hey all,
So I just got my hands on a new project vehicle.... a 1976 Baja Bug!!!! :yahoo: (this was one of the vehicles on my "cars to own before I die" list) It only has minor engine problems (worn out generator, exhaust leak) and is solid except for a bit of rust in the floor boards. I'm bringing it home Tuesday. It should make a fun project. I'm planning on just fixing it up, painting some stripes on it, and fixing up the interior. after that, I'll probably try to sell it for a little profit (hopefully). Anyway, here it is:

This is gonna be awesome!!!

Sweet! Looks fun. What's that hole in the fender for?

since that has a rear engine i'd guess it's for a vent for when you go to the laundromat so the smell of your dirty socks don't enter the cabin area since it's in the trunk area..:icon_rofl:

seriously that looks like it's gonna be a fun project you should post lots of pics when you start..:icon_thumby:

that's the gas filler neck

that's the plan. I'm crazy excited for this. I might rebuild the engine just to learn how to do that. i dunno yet

That bug is way older than '76, try 67 or 68. The flat windshield is the tip off.

well, I'll have to check that out then

I am no VW expert by any means but the vents behind the rear side windows are later than '68. My brother has a '68 and it does not have them.

flat windshield = beetle
curved windshield = super beetle

also the super beetle curved in under the trunk on the front the beetles just dropped straight off, you cant tell on his because of the after market front apron and hood though. the shape of the windshield doesn't have anything to do with the year

good to know. Great news!!! the bug comes home tomorrow!!! I'm way too excited for this. Prepare for a flood of bug pics tomorrow!

you get it home yet? ready to see somemore pic's of this beast lol :P

Cool! I used to have one of those back in my VW days. It was a blast to drive and then some gal without a license t-boned it. I replaced the Porsche 914 engine that was in when I got it with a VW 412 engine and a 2 barrel Weber? carb. Had to get 1/8 inch steel plates welded in to replace the floor boards in the rear. My dog would hear that exhaust a mile away and start barking becuase he knew I was on the way home.

That thing just reeks of coolness! Nice find. My best bud had one just out of high school back in 84, don't take it over 90mph, it tends to turn into a wing and wants to fly..... Scary stuff happens when the tires leave the ground, let me tell you. I too vote for it being a mid to late 60's bug. Paint looks cherry on it! Have fun!

(leaves thread envious....)
