Something I have been noticing over the past few years is it seems like normal traffic speed on the interstate seems to have gone up significantly. Speed limits are just a suggestion. I'm not saying anything should be done, or driving above the posted limit is dangerous in the right condition, but it is almost like being on the Autobahn. If I drive at 70-75 the entire mass of vehicles pass me, quickly going out of sight. Some have the be exceeding 100 mph.
I personally am not In that much of a hurry. I'm just trying to understand this.

Last year I rented a brand new Jeep Rubicon to drive to Orlando. It literally had less than 100 miles on it when I picked it up. I found 75 mph to be the maximum speed it felt safe. At 80 it just didn't feel stable. Now this is a solid front axle vehicle. I don't expect it to be any different. The point I'm trying to make is how do people fly past me all the time in vehicles like this, that I'm sure have worn components, and stay on the road at high speeds?

I don't understand it and can't explain it. I stick to the speed limit most of the time but if it looks like I might get rear ended because of how fast the others are going, I'll speed up. My brother lives in Georgia and had gotten tickets for being a hazard when driving the speed limit and tickets for going with the flow of traffic. Lose, lose for him.

Try driving a semi governed at 69mph....

I dont get it either. Cops seem to turn a blind eye to it, i rarely see people pulled over anymore. I set the cruise at 70-75 and hang out in the right lane. Saving 10 minutes isnt worth running 100mph.

I-240 in Oklahoma City, damn it's nuts. I jumped on it out in the country portion on my M109R, and I had to go 100 to stay apace of everyone else. I jumped off a few offramps later, it was too insane.

I usually drive 70-75 on the highway, any faster around here you're likely to get stopped and wasting money on a ticket would piss me off. My daughter lived just outside Philadelphia for a few years, the speed limit on 95 across the city is posted at 55, that means 80 to a Pa resident.
The highways were designed for 70 mph speed limits and to be safe at 90 mph- for a car from the 60's. If the roads were properly maintained, and if people didn't drive like idiots, 80 mph or more would be perfectly safe.

That seems about normal around here. When Corona first started, the cops wouldn’t pull anyone over for anything... it was a free for all.

The Freeway that runs across the southern portion of Idaho is 80mph East of Boise, and West of Boise...its between 55-65mph once you hit Boise going through Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell. Nobody drives the speed limit, you can and you get passed like you are sitting still. No thanks I'll stick to the speed limit, I'd be the one the cops decide to actually pay attention to and give me a ticket, nevermind the hundreds of cars that go flying by them.

I don't get it either, but I guess when you got too much money, not enough brains, and a new car, you can afford the gas and tickets. Let them do what they want as long as they're not causing wrecks I guess seems to be the logic.

They don't seem to pull people over for driving 10+mph over the speed limit but they'll pull you over in town for doing 1mph over.

I run on 80 and 85 mph rds.....like wild bill is talking about...

And get passed by semis doing triple digits....after speed matching....

At night.

New vehicles effortlessly cruise at 100 mph...

And most are built to do it .. tires are key.

85 mph at 1850 rpm.

Open road ... Is what it is...

80 mph speed limit is there for a reason

There are too many 55 sections across illinois

If the limit where i am is 80 id run 80-85. But im not running 85-100mph in a 70/75 zone.

Older vehicles can cruise 100 no problem to....my old 77 LTD II wouldnt hit 3rd at WOT untill 80-85. 100 was nothing for it.

77 ltd don't like 100 for very long. I run a cadi across Wyoming and Montana alot at 100 or so ... Those old three speeds get warm in hills

The tires are the issue....

That 250 handles better then a LTD at 100 and for damn sure stops better....even 4k more weight .... Sure as hell don't ride as nice as the Ltd though

And if you do blow a tire and wreck ....better off in a Honda civic or a Volvo wagon then the an Ltd.

Cruising out there makes me miss my mark 7

Back when I drove for Autozone I had time on my hands and I did some figuring and unless you’re traveling hundreds of miles, you pretty much can only save seconds on a trip. You would have to travel at double or more of the speed limit for over 40 miles before it starts to amount to much of anything. But nobody gives that a thought. Lot of times the one section of 4 lane around here, speed limit is 50, I’d do 55/60 and still be passed by everything. But every light you come to you catch back up. Race you to the light. Idiots.

I know what a 2nd gen 2wd Ranger 4.0l auto can cruise at... if you disconnect the trans output speed sensor.

I had a 128 mph timeslip from the Michigan state police....in my ranger.

I didn't think it could go that fast

Took some negotiations on that deal
