Last night, I went to my dad's. We went out to eat, get back to his house, jump my my truck, start it, stick it in drive, check my mirror for cars and noticed I can't see a single thing in my mirror. Get out and notice this happened because my mirror is shattered all over the street. Either some punk kid took a bat to the thing, or some irresponsible arrogant driver side-swiped me while text messaging. I'm leaning toward the latter. The driver window has a nice scrape in it and I need a new mirror. I don't have comp/collision on the Ranger anymore because I rarely drive it (drive company vehicle to work and back, and the Mustang and Daytona 675 are more entertaining right now). I certainly won't be giving Ford my money, too high of prices.

So, I just need some info:

The '98-00 Rangers are practically identicle, and the '01 only had a few body changes (mainly hood and fenders and grille, etc, plus the SOHC 4.0). What years should I be looking for at the junkyards for a new mirror?

Also, the electric part of the mirror still works, the mirror housing itself is still in good shape.......the folding in/out action is a little tougher than normal........basically I just need the glass. Is just replacing the glass portion of the mirror possilbe? Or will the eintire housing be neccesary?

BTW, for those who don't remember, and since I'm not here often........the truck is a '00 XLT 4x4, 4.0, auto, power everything. Still have yet to fix the rear axle that howls like crazy now, ever since I changed the pinion seal......man I phudged that up.......just waiting for the axle to explode.

Thanks, mike

New Mirror

Go to Autozone or Pep Boys and just buy the glass. Stick it on with what the give you or some JB Weld.

bump...

anyone else?

I'm not even going to waste my time calling ford parts.

Will I have to replace the entire mirror assembly? Or is the glass removable?

Rockauto.com has them listed for less than $10 for just glass. Silicone will hold it on there just fine.
