I am a new member. I am looking to buy a Ranger for a commuter and eventual kid car. I have my eye on a 2004 Edge with the 3.0L currently. Any suggestions on what to look out for beyond what is mentioned in the buyers guide?

That thing is super helpful BTW. This seems like a great forum.

I am a member of the Tundras forum for my current daily driver (2015 Tundra TRD Pro) and it has been a ton of help for replacement parts, quick fixes, tools, and tips. This place seems like it might be even better.

Hope to be an official owner of a Ranger very soon and to learn from the community here.

Welcome to TRS! The 3.0l is a reliable engine, just not full of torque at low rpm. An 03 Edge should be a great commuter vehicle and first vehicle for a teen.

My 04 edge with 3.0 is a super dependable truck. Its got 220 something thousand miles and doesnt leak or burn oil or any fluid issues. I have driven it across states a few times and so has my son.

A buddy is currently borrowing it since someone totalled his car. He has borrowed it a few times over the years and said he really enjoys it because its suck a solid old school dependable truck
