To begin with let me introduce myself, I'm Travis From Live Oak, Florida. I'm 15 and have a 1987 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4. I am fixing it up and I would like to know what is the biggest size tire I can run on a stock rim?

Very often, tires aren't exactly the size they read. for instance, your tire may be 30.2" when new, and with tire wear...
Also, the tire sizes shown on the above link is maximum without rub. I've ran 31s on my 92, and unless you have an issue with a little rub at full lock, you should be fine.

Well these tires are worn so IDK what the actually measure. Plus it has been sitting for 3 years before he gave it to me so I know they are low on air. LOL
Here is a picture of my truck, It needs alot of work.

If the fenders are cut then yes they could be 31's. But more likely they are 235/75/15's thats about the biggest you can fit with no lift... about 28's. if you have the steel rims then they are most likely going to be 6" wide (mine are 5.5") as the widest you would want to go would be a 235 (8.50") wide tire. People do put wide tires on their stocker rims, but generally that is for off road use cause they will wear funny.

I have a 3" PA body lift on mine with 31's. ($50 on ebay and a day with a friend should have your truck fitting 31's)

A body lift is coming soon, I beleive I saw a 3''-4'' for like $80. I was wanting 35''s but I don't want that tall of a lift. if I can even fit them. I would be putting different rims on it so I could get 35x12.50xwhatever.

If you want 35's, you'll likely need a total of 7-8" of lift and a fender trim. Or a 6" lift and a bit more trimming to the fenders.

My choptop is an 89 with a 5" custom suspension lift and a 2" body lift. It clears 33's with plenty of room, not sure yet how 35's will do, I have to get two more 35's and some rims to try it. Of course, 89's have a lil more fender room, although when I got the truck, it had 31's on it and they cleared ok.

I want 4 inches at the most because I will be dog hunting out of it and I don't want to roll another truck out there. :badidea:

I haven't rolled mine yet, lol

The only way to do 35's with only 4" of lift would be to do a LOT of fender trimming and maybe modifying stuff like the rear wheel wells. 33's could be done with 4" of lift no problem.

Lets just say never hit a Oak Tree doing 65. F-150-0 big a$$ Oak Tree-1

crank the t bars, you should get 2" from that

Maybe if it was a 2007. But his is a 1987. It doesn't have any T-bars to crank.

Putting 1.5" spacers under the front springs and add-a-leafs, longer shackles, or blocks in the rear will get you a 2" lift. That will be enough to clear 31's.

I'd be careful about tire size though. Any ranger engine short of the 4.0L tends to get bogged down real quick with larger tires. Different gears can make up for this to an extent, but if you like the zippyness of it in stock form I'd be wary of anything larger than a P235/75R15. But then again I'm just now getting old enough (23) to realize that I don't give a crap about tire size so long as they are the right size for their intended purpose. Which is why I run 215/70R15 on my ranger and 31x10.5R15 on the exploder. Sure I could run 31's on the ranger, but that would just slow it down, and since I built that truck to be fast, that would be counter productive.

Well I haven't drove it yet as I am still saving up the money to get it running. I got a 6 month dead-line to get it all done. I'm hoping to at-least be able to fit 31's by then but that won't happen as I'm out of a job. :( I just want a wide squatty stance.

If you want to go for a wide squatty stance, I'd get a 3" body lift with 31x12.50's and just do a lil fender trimming if need be
