Hello Ranger forum,

I purchased a 1999 Ranger L2.5, RWD, 5 spd about 4 years ago, have often checked info on this forum and appreciate the helpful tips.

History of said Ranger

1999 XLT reg cab 6' box
Suspension code might be 2nd heaviest factory rating ?

L 2.5
5 speed
RWD

215/75 15 (winter set up)
225/70 15 (summer)

I'm on a couple other car forums, but first time joining one for Ford trucks.
Growing up my father owned a few 150's, Ford passenger cars, and a Ford 9n.
Some of my early cars were Mustangs, I have some first hand knowledge with Fords.

I purchased the Ranger around 2021, it came with previous baggage, I have mostly sorted out.

The Ranger was sold at a discounted price due to 2 coolant leaks, (a) upper rad hose neck (b) spaghetti heater control junction.
I have replaced those parts, and flushed the cooling system twice, and got the heat to improve after a 2nd back flush.

Parts R & R

Radiator
Heater valve
Water pump (shop made repair)
T-Stat / housing (shop)
Timing belt (and parts, etc) (shop)
Serpentine belt/ tension roller
Plugs/wires (except could not get 2 buriued under intake/ egr is rusted shut/ have not come up w a solution)
PVC hose
Clutch and assembly complete (shop)
inspected/ replaced fuid rear end

regards fordley

Welcome to TRS!

I had '98 that was pretty similar. The engine is a solid, dependable work horse, even if it is a bit weak on power. The only reason I don't have it now, is because I didn't need three vehicles and I need more than just RWD.

Welcome!
