hello, thought i would introduce my self, i am pokie, i am from missouri and i just bout a 2000 ford ranger xlt 4x4 supercab stepside. got it cheap as there is a few issues. alternator is out, have one coming monday, transmission is not working in reverse and the passenger side outer door handle is busted. it has 101,000 miles on it. no real rust or dents. interior is in pretty good condition other than one tear in the drivers seat. the paints clearcoat is peeling a bit but not a big deal. hope to fix all the little things then get the tranny fixed or replaced then paint it. should be a nice little truck when i get done.

Welcome to TRS~!

Sounds like not too much work for the truck...but could be expensive to replace the transmission...might be a simple fix but it's not something I'd want to tackle right off...maybe someone can elaborate on this or tell you if it is common or easy.

I'd suggest the transmission section if you haven't already been there and done that.

Have fun and enjoy the FX4...I hear they are nice but I've never been in one...

thanks for the welcome, i have an idea the tranny could be expensive, if it isn't the band or the solenoid it will be and i'll get a tranny from u pick it. i have a friend thank goodness that can paint it cheap so the tranny will be the biggest expense.

got it to the tranny shop, my cheap little ranger is not cheap anymore, going to cost almost 3000 to rebuild. thats a complete rebuild with updated electronics and everything so it is supposed to be a lot better than coming out of the factory. i had a problem with the charging system, turned out something caused a power surge and fried my alternator along with the main fuse, the 125 amp one. that is fixed now. should get the truck back with the tranny fixed by the end of the week. looking fowart to that. thats it for now, going to have to wait till next month to fix anything remaining cause the tranny cost so much. will let you all know how it turns out.

Good lord 3k for a trans rebuild. I hope they building it for a tank.

Ouch...sorry to hear that was a costly intro...

Not sure what transmission you have in there but it could have been less expensive if you could have done it yourself...but kind of a major task to take on if you're not familiar with how to do it and that can get quite expensive if you make mistakes...

Sometimes it's just better to pay for something and be done with it...

Like my Dodge...it needed a shift solenoid about a month after I got it and they quoted me $1,000 plus and couldn't guarantee that it would fix it...turned out to be much cheaper than that but still a big chunk to pay out...

Anyway...hopefully that will be the end of it for a while...:)

i thought about getting one from a salvage yard but nobody around here would warranty it for much more than a month, the tranny guy said the tranny in my ford, the 4r44e is known to be not very good so i figured what the heck, i am planning on keeping it for a long time anyway. only has 102000 miles on it. still about gave me a heart attack though lol. i like the looks of it also, plus my father whom is 80 this year can get in it, i had a 2000 dodge and he just couldn't get into it anymore lol. i let him use it quite a lot if it looks slick out. once i get it back ill have about 3500 into it including the seat i go from u pick it that i still have to install. old one was pretty ratty. i have a friend that will paint it for 4 or 5 hundred so ill have a very nice truck for around 4 grand. not bad if it can last me awhile.
