New LSD

all the synthetic stuff i have seen says you still need to add friction modifier. what oil did you use that already had it?

There have several different kinds on Summit that say they already have the additive in it.

I don't remember what kind mine was, white bottle, green oil with an Indycar on the label from O'Reilly's.

I've also seen fluids labeled as already having friction modifier added.

I wouldn't add any additional modifier if you use such an oil. Too much of it reduces the effectiveness of the LS.

If you only drive the truck on the road then add the friction modifier. If you use the truck on the trails then do the extra clutch mod and leave out the friction modifier, it will occasionally shudder or make noises but what a difference in traction.

Some used limited slips are fine without the additive but a new unit will almost certainly need it or an oil formulated for L.S. P.S. LSD in your rearend good. LSD in your head bad.

So LSD in my head and not in my diff right???
I've got your point, thanks for the help.

Looking forward to see how it works in winter, with about 200kg of leadbars bolted over the rearwheels for traction.

Royal Purple is already formulated so you don't need to add friction modifier. It says so right on the bottle. Friction modifier allows the clutches to slip(?) in order to not hear clicks. I don't think it will hurt a bit to run it without friction modifier if you don't mind the clicks and engage the LSD better.
