Ha! I try to leave my college and they wont let me... I'm graduating in 2 weeks, and my college wants to hire me as an IT manager! It's a fairly entry level job right now, but I'm gauranteed to move up after a few months. Starting out I will be managing all the IP based phones and cameras on campus, with a little bit of security mixed in there too! I'll be sure to keep y'all updated on all the cool gadgets I get to play with on the job :)

(and the cool gadgets i get to afford with the new job :D )

Well, good luck.

University IT folks tend to be massively underpaid, and extremely unappreciated. As you know, IT is the kind of job that, when you do it right, no one notices.

I burned out on that fairly early.

Frankly, you should be able to find a private sector IT job that pays twice as much. Even more if you're willing to relocate. Vastly more if you're willing to sell your soul to Wall St.

Well congratulations, and good luck with it!

Eh, its a little more than twice what I'm making now, and I get state benifits... so for someone who is 22 I'm not doing too bad :) I figure if anything I can stay here for a couple of years and get some money in the bank and then look for other options. For the moment though, I'm pretty happy since I will finally have some spare change to throw into another bike :D And, I can get a 2 bedroom apartment and move out of my roomates living room now that I can afford to pay half the rent somewhere bigger!

Yes good luck and IT is either forgotten or they are pissed off cause their internet doesn't work...LOL! I could use a (good) pay raise too!

Congrats on the new job.
The phone system will keep you busy. Will you be pulling wire or just maintaining?

Congrats!

I'm currently trying to get a a better job within my current company, although, we will see how that goes. It really does help when you are willing to relocate. My goal is to not be living in my parent's basement at this time next year. :icon_thumby:

I would guess just maintaining, places like that usually have a sub-contractor or a different team pull wire. I do a little of everything including pulling wire when needed. It's good to know how to properly do the whole spectrum of IT work and to be flexible when something needs to get done, however I don't want to be pulling wire everyday like I used to.

I know many schools sub out pretty much everything that has to to pulling wire.

22 years old and all round got yourself a good job to start. :headbang:

Kinda of funny, I'm 22 yrs old also. And all I get is stabbed by my higher-ups. Blamed by the few angry people. But when I can help those just few customers get their vehicles fixed and actually get a "thank you". Its that moment why I like to be a mechanic.

Its not the work that will hurt ya. Its the demanding people of it. DO NOT let them drag you down. Always be the knight in silver armor they always talk about, but blinded by their own corupition.

But you have to be careful who you piss off. Things like promotions don't come when you piss off the head honcho. Then you find yourself stuck in the same job for 5 years.

Just don't tell someone O that was a really easy fix, that pisses people off big time and makes them feel dumb...... Its all about people relation, and if people are being annoying just answer their stupid questions and act like you care :D...

Congrats on the job man, Its always nice to have some extra money in the bank.
