New Hub? (Inner Wheel Bearing Fused)

So it ends up being an inner wheel bearing, no big deal. When they went to disassemble it, it was fused to the hub. So now, I need a new hub (passenger side).

Theyre a good shop that does good work, etc. They're quoting me $260 for a new hub (believe from the FORD dealer). I know autozone has the mile marker hubs for about $175 or so.

Do you guys see any issues in having them go with the MileMarker ones? Fully interchangable, etc etc?

I dont know much about hubs, to the advice is appreciated.

Oh, and theyre manual locking hubs. :3gears:
 
Should be able to get them cheaper than that. I got superwinch one's new for $100 Can. But milemarker's are good to if they're all you can find.

I know a few people are running mile markers on here. I have Warn and am VERY happy with them. I would reccomend them and I think for both were much cheeper than 260.
 
Are you sure it's the hub, and not the SPINDLE that the bearing is fused to? (the bearing has no contact with the hub, but could certainly fuse to the spindle if overtightened or improperly lubed)

If it's the spindle you need, those are probably a dime-a-dozen at a junkyard (any '91-'94 Explorer or Ranger spindle will fit).

No, I'm not sure. I am only going by what the mechanic told me... I've never done any work on the internals there, so I have just run with what he got me.

If he meant spindle, does $260 sound about right? Are there other options?
 
If its the spindle just go to the junkyard, ive got an extra two, (I think) like 4x4 junkie said, they are a dime-a-dozen.

i just had this happen to my truck on thursday. its not your hub. its your spindle that the hub sits on. id go to the wrecking yard and find a good one out of an old truck. it took me about 20 minutes and it only cost me about $10. you'll just need to get a new rear seal for the spindle. i wouldnt recommend using the old one again, even though its just a dust seal.
 
So I chatted with them today - apparently the term hub & spindle are used interchangably... and different from what I know as hub (they call that the outer hub). Go figure.

Yeah, actually, if you know what you are talking about... they aren't.
 
yeah they are very different. not the same. changing out the spindle isnt complicated in the slightest. just be sure to CORRECTLY pack your wheel bearings again and correctly put the inner seal on so that your shit doesnt dry out and own your SPINDLE again.

most of the guys at the parts store dont even know what you're talking about when you ask for parts unless it pops up on the computer screen.
 
yeah they call the lockout hubs outer hubs, i didnt know that till i asked for new hubs at oreillys and they said it came with the rotor, they were thinking of the spindle but they call it the hub.
