hey just found this site and have to say its packed with everything i needed to know about my truck and whats in it.! but i am going to do my first engine swap and still have some questions. I am going to swap a 4.0 from a 92 explorer into a 90 ranger that has the more common 2.9. after reading through the tech library and other forums, mostly everything is based on swaping the 4.0 into the b2. my first question is

1- is there really any differece when swaping into the ranger or b2
2- both are manual tranny's which i think are the mazda should i keep the one from the 4.0 or does it matter
3-and other than the main engine harness and power distribution, alt,starter/starter soliniod, and ignition is there any other wires i need to take
4- i have never done any kind of elecrical work ever so will there be any wire cutting , or moveing wires around for this swap?

any help will be put to good use i just wish there was more info for swapping into the ranger, and i appoligize for being ignorant with wires and stuff ( last time i messed with wires i really screwed things up and ended up payin out a lot of cash so i never touched one again!!)

I would swap everything from the explorer. Engine, harness, computer, Axles, Transmission, Transfer case........... everything.

thanks sounds like alot of work but good advise, front axels are both d 35 and both rear axels are 8.8 and both are 3:73 gears so swap them any way?
so ill get right to work cleaning wires and tossing them and is it better to put the wires in after the motor or before. and once gain thanks for the advise

awsome thanks again for the advise and last question and ill shut up

this 4.0 has the california emissions, if i got a different computer and harness that does not have the egr, would i just get rid of it and get a different drivers side exhaust manifold
