I got a 98 XLT used last August as my first vehicle. It had 137,000 on it. Check engine light poped on in October with Cylinder 3 misfire. It went away again once I got the motor hot. 3 days ago, it came back. I figured head gasket and tore the motor apart. I had my Mom take the head over to the local machinist (on her way to work, and I'm away at school). I just got the news that the head is craked. Some research says that this problem isn't that uncommon. Two questions then:
1. Should we go ahead and pull the driver's side head too and have it checked as well?
2. I've heard there are better heads out there for these trucks, but haven't seen anyone actually put out a name. I'm not necessarily looking for anything high pefromance, but I would, like a head that won't crack on me any time soon.
Thanks.
