hi i have a 95 explorer, it's a good suv (truck) it's done me real good, but i want it to have more giddy-up, has a 4.0L 115,000 miles, either wanna swap for the SOHC 4.0L or a V8, or if i could just keep the engine and mod it along with a rebuild that would be awesome. The wife keeps tellin me it's a grocery getter but i say it has potential, i just don't know much about ford explorers, it comes stock with 160 hp and 225 ft-lb torque, i believe. i would love for it to push at least 350 hp, i know it's kind of a big jump but i think that would suffice for what i want to do with it. any help would be greatly appreciated

welcome to the boards you ocan add headers cold air a chip better gears to get off the line better depends on how much you wanna spend really

If you want that kind of power reliably you'll need a v8 with some kind of forced induction.

what would i have to do to be able to put a V8 in it, i,ve looked and i've found a stroker kit, heads, headers, cold air intakes, and other perfomance parts for the 4.0L, i really don't want to have to change the trans, mounts, pcm or ecu whatever ford wants to call it. if i have to throw $10,000 into the engine over time that's fine, i live in military housing there is a limit of what i can do. thanks for the replies, please keep them coming.

To put a V8 in it you need to change trans, mounts, PCM, wiring, basically that whole list of things you don't really want to replace.

well is there some way of putting in a SOHC 4.0L without changing all that stuff, if i have to put in a the ecu to match the engine what will i have to do to make it work with the truck. sorry not so well with vehicles after like 1979.

Welcome to TRS~!

I'd say if you haven't already toured the swap forum you might want to give that a look over...but from the replies you've already received you might know that there are many thing to consider and it's best to know as much as possible, including COST, before you venture there...

But there are SOOooooo many options available to you...that's the good news...and, of course, the not so good news...
