Hi, all! Looking forward to getting to know you. I have a '94 Ranger XL standard cab/shortbed/2.3/5 speed. I got it for $400 back in 2008 and it's turned out to be the best vehicle I've ever owned. I've been kicking around a 5.0 swap for a few years, but recently changed my mind. I'm gonna stay with the Lima engine, just play around with it a bit and see what I can make out of it.
A few years ago I swapped the spindles for ones out of a '96, to take advantage of the larger diameter wheel bearings and twin-piston calipers. I've been looking at a 4.10 LSD 8.8" rearend with discs (out of an Explorer) for the rear, and since the spring pad spacing is the same and the axle is positioned above the springs, that'll save me a little on lowering parts.
I'll be asking a lot of questions about building power out of this little motor. My goal is high revs (is 5500 unreasonable with a stock bottom end?) and about 165 hp. I'll be starting with a crate motor, and I'll be saving the old mill out of this truck for a more serious build in the future (I've heard those Merkur guys talking about 400 hp WooHoo!)
