Hi, I'm new to the board. Finding a wealth of information here, thanks all for your posts!!!

I have a 1999 Ranger XLT extended cab 4x4 4 liter. This does NOT have suicide doors.

I'm having trouble figuring out which running bars/Nerf bars will fit my Ranger. It currently has Westin's that are rusting out and about to fall off. I don't see any kind of serial number or marking left to indicate which bars these are.

My girlfriend is very short and needs that extra step up.

I'm seeing a lot of very reasonably priced Stainless steel nerf bars on eBay... but can't tell which are the correct ones to buy.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Russ

Have you checked JCWhitney or LMC Truck?

You'll have better luck if you search for running bars or running boards, nerf bars are bumpers. If your running bars are rusted enough to be weakened, please take them off before she steps on the bar and lands on the ground.

Thanks Eric!

JCWhitney listed one that looks like the correct fitment: Aries 203035-2

The existing bars are Westin's that measure about 5'5'' or so. The Aries looks like a good fit.

Going to try this eBay seller who says he's an authorised Aries dealer:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aries-2030...=254557548278427c7b6b9588489aae67f299221a0b9a

$183.05 sounds like a good deal.

I'm going to be doing front rotor, caliper, pads and will install the bars then.

Thanks again for your help!

Russ

Thanks Walt! Her side is OK-ish. Big rust hole in the back, but I can bounce up and down on it today. Mine is wired up with a clothes hanger... Russ

And by the way... welcome to TRS

Thanks Uncle Gump!

Those look like the ones I have on the truck now. At $129 they are cheaper, but not stainless steel. I do like the black look better... but rust.

Hmmm. I'm 65... not sure that rust will again be MY problem. LOL

I think I'll go with the Westin's. Plus I'll get 5% back using my Amazon card.

Thanks again Uncle Gump.

I'm jealous of your door vent windows. Have you looked on the Westin website to see if they still carry the same model?

Thanks for that sgtsandman. I'm installing the black, steel, Westins now. The old one's were rusted solid and a chore to remove, but got them off yesterday. Putting the new ones on today.

I'm going to try to shoot some Rustoleum down the insides of the new ones before I put them on. I also painted all the nuts, bolts, etc with black rustoleum. And will assemble them with copper brake anti-seize grease. Also do some undercarriage rust cleanup.

You might want to also spray the heck out of the inside of the tubes with Fluid Film when you are done painting. As long as the stuff doesn’t get direct road spray, it stays where it’s put very well.

When I was upgrading and repairing my suspension on the 2011, my arms looked like I was working in an unkempt engine bay with a leaking engine.

It’s made of oil from sheep, so not potentially hazardous like engine oil but it feels like it and needs scrubbed off like it. Just an idea.
