Hi all, found my way to the forum in my hunt for a tech answer (thread shortly in the appropriate section).
I'm on my second Ranger now, the first was a 2000 3.0L 4x2 Short box XLT that my son rolled end-over-end. Surprisingly he was uninjured, airbag didn't blow, but the front was caved in from hitting a post, fenders were toast and roof was flattened yet all the windows were intact.
I picked up a 1998 2.5L 4x2 Short box XLT to fix the 2000, but ended up junking the 2000 as it was too much work and this one was too nice (it was in a junkyard on its way to the crusher
). A bit of minor body work on the cab corners, building one box out of the two and throwing on the 235 BFG ATs on mint chrome rims from the wreck and I have a nice Ranger again.
Unfortunately, I had to give up my nice tires and rims, the 2.5L and its waning clutch weren't happy with heavy 235s, so I traded down to some winter steelies and snow tires. A functional 5th gear and non slipping clutch make up somewhat for my loss.
Love my little trucks.
