Hello,my name is Josh, and I am new to the site.

I have an 89' 4X4 extended cab Ranger which currently has a 2.9L and Mitsu 5spd, and I've just started a 4.0L and Mazda 5spd swap. I have a complete donor truck... a 93' (mudder with trashed/cracked and rusted frame) with a somewhat decent powertrain to help with the swap. Also planning on putting the bigger axles under it.

So you ask, what makes this project worth while? Well the truck has been owned by my parents since day 1, well up until about a year ago when i was handed the keys. It would be nice to keep it running and then some.

I welcome any tips , and look forward to checking out the info in the forums and tech library along the way.

where abouts you located?

its a worthy swap imo.

Welcome. I grew up in Ypsilanti and my g/f lives out there.

Sounds good to me! Is there anything wrong with what's running? I would run it as is until it quits THEN swap.

Sounds like you can't go wrong. It's nice to know that you know the truck's whole history too.

The short answer is this another classic case of a tired truck/motor... down on compression, burning coolant, needs a clutch, leaking oil... so on and so on.

To your other point, knowing the full history of the truck, and having all the original documentation, is just icing on the cake.

Welcome! my names josh as well...you'll definitely find everything you need here

This is Josh from Farmington Hills saying welcome aboard! Let me know if you ever need any parts for that '89. Nice to hear it's stayed in your family.
