I’m new on here from Virginia I have a 2001 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 with 233,000 mile . The transmission started to act up so I have decided that I am going to do a v8 swap any info to help would be great I would like to put v8 with a 5 speed transmission but I don’t know what to get the transmission out of and what kind of transfer case to use so any advice will help. And is it worth the headache for 5 speed trans or just use the auto trans out of the mountaineer I have bought as a donor vehicle. Thanks in advance

Transmission is a personal preference I nd of thing. But how you want to use the vehicle can help make the decision.

I wish I could go back to a manual but my stop and go commute would be a nightmare with the extra pedal.

If you've got an auto now, do the automatic v8 swap first. It's a big enough project as it is. Then start collecting notes and parts to do the manual swap separately later.

On a related note, hit me up if you want to look over anything. I'm just down the road from you with a 99 swap.
