I just recently picked up a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4. Has a rebuilt 2.9 V6 and 5 speed. It is in pretty good shape and no rust to speak of.

Things done so far:
Full tune up
Rear brakes

Things on the list:
Front brakes and bearings
Change auto hubs to manual
Change running gear fluids
Alignment
Change front pinion shaft seal
Pinpoint jumpy idle

I bought this to be my weekend rig for camping, fishing, light trail running. My daily is a Honda Civic and sucks for the previously mentioned activities.

Welcome, nice Ranger.

Howdy and welcome to TRS!

That's one VERY clean first gen.
