so im almost done putting in a rebuilt 2.9 and im not to sure on how to go about priming the oil pump without messing it up so any ideas or help would be great.

also i would like to get some more info on the break in period of this engine and what i really need to do so i dont mess up the new engine.
thanks a bunch

I always prime the oil system while the engine is still out of the vehicle. With oil already in the pan I get a fitting that will fit the top of the oil pump shaft, then I get a lectric drill and put them together and insert the fitting on to the oil pump shaft and turn the drill on when pressure is acheived the drill will be hard to hold... If the valve covers are still off I can watch oil arrive in the top of the heads..
I have also done this to engines already installed but it can be much harder to see what I am doing.
Also I NEVER install a dry filter! When changing oil I always fill the filter before installing it..
Big JIm

be sure to tape all the fitting with electric tape or you might have to go fishing for bits with a magnet.

Not sure if there's a common tool that will work with the oil pump shaft since it's star, but you can make a good priming tool out of an old distributor.
