So I got a "new" (used) engine under the hood after the last one failed miserably and warped the heads so bad I could stick my pinky finger between the block and the head.... Well as it turns out the new engine has some oil seeping through the front:

I sprayed brake cleaner yesterday over the valve cover and this area to start searching for where this is coming from and today the leak showed up again but valve cover is clean.... Lower intake leak? Can I get away with just re-torqueing? Besides this the engine is strong, idles perfect, and has great response... PCV is new btw, the wiring harness in the pic leads to the crankshaft sensor in the bottom right of the pic, the leak seems to be coming down along the joint between the timing cover and the block but I couldn't track it down to it's origin b/c the alternator bracket is in the way

what do you guys think?

I would check the bolts on the torqueing specs an go from there.the worst it could be is a gasket

Its a Ford, I thought oil leaks were normal.

I'd certainly check all of the bolts and make sure they're tight, a gasket could have slipped somewhere as well.

Thanks for your responses, and yeah I bet they have a "leak check" at the Ford Engine plant. If it leaks, ship it!! :icon_rofl:

Out of curiosity, can you have an oil leak in the lower intake manifold without having a lean condition present? Right now the engine idles at around 800 RPM when warm which I think is the operating spec, correct?

Yep it normally does idle around 750-800 RPMs. :icon_thumby:

Well, I tightened the intake manifold today and idle actually went down 'round 50RPMs, but pesky oil leak showed up again :annoyed:

New Ford intake manifold gasket on its way along with VC gaskets....
