Well guys yall just might be right about the 2.9. I found out yesterday that the previous ownwers had a new or rebuilt engine installed in my XLT three years ago. I think they had a more aggressive cam and of course they must have had the aftermarket heads installed. This explains why the engine didnt even have an oil stain or buildup anywhere and the gaskets looked brand new. The injector harness and fuel rail where also new. It was leaking so bad before and I always just kept it full of oil. I never even noticed or really cared until it started running really bad. I bought the tune up stuff and got THE SPARK PLUGS THAT WHERE MASHED FLAT WHEN I GOT HOME SO I HAD TO GUESS AT THE GAP FIGURING THAT IF IT WOULD RUN BETTER THAT I WOULD CHECK THEM AGAIN LATER. THEY MUST HAVE GOTTEN DAMAGED WHILE TRAVELING ON THE SHIP HERE TO MAUI. Turns out though that it was the o2 after EDUCATING MYSELF WITH READING ON THE INTERNET FOR A FEW DAYS. I already had my parts truck figuring that sooner or later this truck was going to break because it was a 2.9 . I cant believe they didnt replace the cats. Well this explains why my mods have made such a difference. This thing was starving for air. I only have the 3.45 gear with 31s and its quick. The previous owner said he wanted more power from the engine. It was ok when I first started driving it but it got more and more sluggish as time went on because of the o2 being superheated so many time by worn out cats. I started studying more and came across you guys here on the net. Ive ordered a 4.10 and its going to spin these 31s if Im not careful. Ive been fixing up rods for 22 years now. I enjoy tinkering and creating stuff and doing it myself and I dont care how long it takes or how long it takes to write about it either. I prefer carburetors over fuel injection because its just a racket created by the govt and the auto man. My Grandfather worked at Lakewood Chevrolet assembly plant in Atlanta Georgia for 39 years until he had a heart attack and died 2 weeks before he was supposed to retire. He told me that they had invented a carburetor that obtained 54 miles per gallon and he saw it on the vehicle. Fuel injection was invented over fifty years ago but the American public would never have accepted it and we would all have been driving volkswagen beetles if they had tried to make us back then. They had to wait for the world to catch up first and then spring it on us and the rest of the world at the same time so we wouldnt have a choice. The govt had to bail Chrysler out because they were so ill prepared for the technology but they were drug along too being told that all will be well one day just dont you worry. The profits will come boys just you wait and see. Its all a big scam man open your eyes and smell the dough rising. Them oil boys have been promised big profits too and now its their turn. Everybody gets a turn yall just be patient. The tree huggers won a decisive battle. They love it but they are cutting their own throats. Now since the tree huggers have came along we are all forced to buy this intricate technology that has created seperate industries unto itself. Why cant we have a choice? They have cats that burn anything now so who needs an 02 sensor anyhow? They dont want us to fix up these old ones anymore and they have created laws to prevent it. They will have to come shootin before they get all the old cars and trucks outa my yard back in Georgia. Well any way I like the simple fuel injection and I wish I could write a program for this truck. I just might if I keep studying!!! Anybody got any tips how I can hack into Fords secret locker full of treasures? LONG LIVE THE 2.9!!! THEY CANT KILL EM ALL!!!

I have never purchased stuff on the street corners in Maui... But after reading your lengthy posts they must have some really GOOD STUFF out there! Or is it home grown?

Well, I've heard of those high mileage carbs for a long time also, and don't doubt at all there's some collusion between big oil and car mgfrs, but I think the carb/injector thing is a lot like the manual/auto trans thing...they both have there good and bad sides....

damn partner, i think you read a little far into stuff haha...but then again im a conservative republican, the huge mpg out of that carb would be nice though.
