New Door

where the heck does it go? Theres mufflers and drive shafts and gas tanks under there. They must redo the whole undercarriage or something.

its like he rolled down his window and it just kept going....

I wonder how that door would work in cold climates where snow and water will get in there and freeze. And how easy it would be to mess the door up and make it not work. Also what are the features to get out in an emergency or how does it open with no power?

The track could easily be set up to go under the frame, or shortened with a two piece door. Diagrams on the site show a two panel (upper/lower) door and track. The door could be made to slide into a protected pocket under the body for winter areas. Look around at the site, these problems seem to be easily addressable.

Structurally, a very good concept. Mechanically, I don't think I would want to put it on an off road truck.

it probably only works on cars with enough ground clearance and thin enough door to start with.

How thin is sheet metal, anyway? This could be made to stack the panels like paper stacks.

As much I like to say it, but that is just freaking awsome. :headbang:

Only one problem, I don't I'll ever feel safe with a door like that. I still favor the two hinge and latch design. Especially since I know there a good size impact beam in the door.

they talk about lack of structural integrity in normal doors but never touch the topic with thiers. Plus it doesnt even look like that door latches or secures the the vehicle. If those seems froze up in the winter you would be screwed.

very very cool, if i had a high dollar hot rod that is what i would do...but not on anything that i have right now!!

Dude around here has some old sports car, an early 50's Nash I think, and the doors slide backwards into the quarter panel. It's pretty cool.

the doors on that car are completely custom made anyway. They could do it to whatever car they wanted.

Sports car

I think the maker of the car referred to was Kaiser. About 1954 or so.

Cool concept. Though it wouldn't work very well where we get ice and snow. Plus I can see the door getting alot of scratches in dusty areas or if a rock got into that pocket where the door goes.
