Hey all,
I have a computer coming in tomorrow morning for the explorer....is there anything i have to do or do i just plug it and fire it up??...neg battery cable should be disconnected also correct..
Thanks
Nick

Check ALL the actuator circuits at the computer connector for shorts to ground.

Ford computers don't just die. They get killed. Make sure you fix the problem that killed your original or it will kill your new one as well.

No need to disconnect the negative battery cable; your computer is already reset in the box.

I disagree. Always disconnect the battery when doing any electrical work unless you need the battery power for diagnistics.

To check anything connected to the computer, you would need a circuit diagram to tell you which wires are which. Then using an ohmmeter, check each circuit to ground. Most devices will have some resistance, and this is where a manual will tell you how to check the devices. If you find anything at the connector that shows a dead short you would want to look at that circuit in more detail. shady

Hey all, update :: had the ex towed into the ford dealership today...thought it might be the camshaft positioning sensor...come to find out that you cant just replace the sensor the whole assembly needs to be replaced...costing $380-$420 depending where i go...so im having the dealership check it out before i drop that much into it....but thanks for all the help and feel free to add in any more advice! :)
