Hi folks.
Just signed up to say THANKS for the valuable information on this site.
I live way up in the middle of nowhere west of Fort Collins, CO, 11 miles from the nearest power line, no phone lines or cell service. 4WD is essential, just to get up my driveway in the winter. I don't do much 4-wheeling for fun; it's mostly survival, scouting remote roads and looking for smoke for the local VFD, and getting into the best fishing holes.
And I actually despise working on vehicles. But this 1999 flex fuel Ranger, which I bought new, has been an absolute peach. In 10 years, I've only had to feed it one set of plugs and plug wires, 2 front brake rotors, and a new 4WD lock motor in the transfer case (thanks to a really high and pointy rock). I've decided to keep this truck until it it's a complete basket case, it's been very good to me.
I was recently left high and wet (snow) by the vacu-suck hubs. Got the website link here, ordered the manual lockers from AVM, and installed them. The pictures here were invaluable -- because it was a mess in there. 2 screwdrivers to pull the old ones, my a**! We used 2 people and *8* screwdrivers. But it worked, and we didn't have to grind them out.
I could not have done this without the step by step photos from this site.
Oh, and since it's a PITA to go to the dealer, I prevented the inevitable engine fire from the cruise control recall thanks to all y'all too, and disconnected that flammable wiring harness from the master cylinder. Again, THANKS for the photos of what to do!
At 130k miles, I'm sure some things are getting sketchy and will need repair. But I'm willing to do it, or at least hire a local wrench neighbor and bribe another neighbor to use his garage instead of me laying in the mud or snow.
THANKS AGAIN
DAN
