Maintain it dammit!
So my '92 4x4 4.0 Ranger's clutch is starting to slip . . . this explains previous stinky clutch smell that I have noted in the past just feathering the clutch. I know that I will need to resurface flywheel and because clutch slave on my trans is internal, will need to replace this along with pilot bearing, throwout bearing, etc - and rear seal too as now would be the time. My question is should I buy a heavy duty clutch disc (do they make one) and pressure plate from Ford and go OEM or is there a much better quality heavy duty clutch and pressure plate out there? Any thoughts? Thanks folks!

when I did my clutch recently I just bought a new flywheel for 30$, but I used a SOHC clutch(LUK 07139), its larger in diameter than the OHV clutch. also be sure to use a motorcraft slave, and If I were you I would just change the master too. Also buying prefilled is a godsend because bleeding these clutches suck.

Wow, flywheel only 30.00?! It was an oem flywheel? I think machining would run more -thats amazing. Do you have a '92/93 4.0 also?

It was a LUK flywheel but from my knowledge they did the oem Manual parts, and I personally have a 1994 ford explorer. I know the master/slaves were different between years thats why I suggest replacing it all.

here is the slave i used :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008Y84T2K/?tag=959media-20

coupled with the newer SOHC clutch the clutch pedal is as light or lighter then my ford escort, and grips really well.

Thank you! And rated just fine for 4x4 I assume? Yea, I understand those hydraulic components are problematic to bleed. I will be taking my truck to a shop for this work as this work way too heavy for a single man job without a lift
