New carpet

Hello,

The carpet in my truck has seen better days. From my cowl overflooding into the cab, along with another leak I can't seem to find, the carpet and padding are in bad shape. I pulled the carpet back and the pad is still wet, and very moldy. I figured I might as well replace both.

So where can I get some new carpet and padding? I don't have a lot of money to go and spend so I was thinking about rolled auto carpet. But where do I buy the padding? Can I just buy some normal house carpet padding?

Don't laugh, but I have always wanted some shag carpet in the cab. Will this hold up?

I bought an older Chevy K5 6 or years ago that had shag carpet in it. It was a very becoming blend of gold and green. I laughed when I first saw it and honestly wanted to keep it in there for the reaction factor, but it was matted, wouldn't come clean, wasn't molded and moved around everywhere, and just generally sucked. The guy that had it before me did it, "just because it was laying around." If you never get your truck dirty or wet, it might work. If you do, I wouldn't even got down that road. You could always do a shag head liner or door panel inserts, or maybe even a dashpad.

if you know of any new apartment complexes or business places going up, see if they have scrap carpet left over

When I had to replace mine I just went and found one at the junkyard...the one I found was in great shape, except it had grass growing in it...yes, grass...lol...I dried it out, cut the grass, and installed it...

The big problem with carpets and under pads is they absorb water to the point of making them weigh close to 100 lbs sopping wet...incredible as it may seem, but when you dry them out they are about ten pounds...makes for a lighter ride...

If you can find a suitable replacement in the junkyard they are pretty easy to install after you remove the seats...but I'd be wanting to get the leak fixed before doing anything like that...and I'm sure that is probably a priority because it annoyed the crap out of me...
