New Bronco II owner

Hey all, got my first B-II. 1984 2.8l, auto. Great solid body, majority of it’s miles are from being dinghy towed behind an RV. Had to do some adjustments on the choke a fuel mixture to get it to idle and run half decent, the little 2.8 seems solid. I’m trying to bide my time until I can round up the parts for the duraspark conversion and I need to closer tune the carb. Been 30 plus years since I fooled with carbs or even points for that matter. Question is, where to pull manifold vacuum to adjust carb with vac gauge?

Not sure what to tell you about tuning the carb, I haven’t owned one with a carb but I’m sure someone will be along shortly, lol

Looks like a nice find though, I really have a soft spot for the Bronco II, they are great little trucks

There should be a vacuum "tree" on the manifold, behind the carb and in front of the distributor. I think that you can just follow the brake vac hose to locate it.

I’m not new to to 4x4 scene I used to build Toyota Land Cruisers for off road. Back then I was all into the computer controlled EFI, great for offroad. Now I just want simple. Maybe I just wanted to break out some if the pre ODB-II tools.

I don't have a bunch of experience with the 2.8L... but any port below the throttle plate will do.

T is behind the carb, use manifold, not ported (on the front of the carb) . You can pull directly from the manifold, but, does not work as well. Many vacuum leaks will come from that tee, when I repair or rebuild I usually replace the stock Ford one with a much simpler 3 port. Today's vacuum caps rot and crack, so, I usually go with a hose on the tee barb, with a clamp, then close the open end of the hose (1/4"?) with a bolt and clamp to seal. This has been a reliable way to handle the Ts when doing conversions. Plus, it makes it easy to run a gauge when needed.

I remember in the 1990s at a Ford dealer where I worked, we had a "mechanic" from Thailand (or Vietnam - I forget) take it a step further, he did it to a customer's car (my BIL) to diagnosis an electrical problem after body shop work. Car made it about a mile from the dealership with bolts in the electrical connector before it toasted itself, when the electrons still escaped despite best efforts, interesting times the 90s were for me :-D

Several years ago with my 84 B2, I had to do a few adjustments on it and no amount of gauge tuning did any good....basically adjust it run it, adjust it again, and repeat till it runs like you think it should. Mine was so bad it didn't have an operational choke, but fired right up every morning even in freezing temps. My B2 was so rusty it wasn't worth the time and effort to fix anything on it, just drove it till it destroyed the 2nd starter and sent the thing to the scrap yard.
