New and Looking for a Ranger

Hi everyone, wanted to join the forum as I'm on a search for a Ranger. Owning a house and a Honda PWC warrants owning a truck. I drive a 2001 Acura TL as my daily driver (used to own a 2000 model hence my username). I also am an avid Taurus SHO enthusiast and have a 90 model that's turned into a project car. I used to own a 93 SHO as well. The wife owns an 08 Milan. I've pretty much been a Honda and Ford man--I know, opposite ends of the spectrum.

Anyway, I will need some help on my truck search. I've already found one. I'm looking at spending no more than $3k as this will be a truck used to go to Lowe's/Home Depot and occasionally tow my ski or play offroad. I'm looking at the 95-97 body style (like the dash better), but I want the extended cab 4.0 V6 5spd only---and I really want 4WD.

I found a 96 STX 4x4 extended cab 4.0 5spd for $2700, but it has unknown mileage--current odometer shows less than the Autocheck did 4 yrs ago. My state exempts the mileage on vehicles 10 yrs old or older. Usually I run like hell from these issues but the truck appears to be solid and has had a new clutch, brakes, brake flush, coolant flush, plugs, wires, belt, and wheel cylinders. I don't think the mileage issue will affect the resale much on something that's already this cheap. The seller was unaware of this and dropped the price from $3k to $2700 when I hit him up with the mileage issue. He seems pretty honest. He estimates based on reading the Autocheck that it has about 160k. He thinks the dealer his uncle bought it from (previous owner) may have changed the cluster or did a rollback of some sorts. Is this a good price for the truck? I was going to offer $2000 and go up to $2500. I plan on going to look at it Saturday. Oh it has a tow hitch on it too...not just the crappy bumper ball. I figure anything that looks decent, is clean, well maintained, runs, drives, has heat and a/c....and being a truck should go for this much. It does need a new 4x4 switch--I hear it's a common problem--$100 module.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeremy
