Hey whats up im Joe. I just got a 1986 ford ranger 4x4 with a 2.9. Its in rough condition but I am planning to put some work into her. The front part of the 4x4 has been removed because the gear got destroyed, so I am planning to replace that soon after i do some research on what i can upgrade it too. I dont know that much about drivetraings and transmissions so hopefully i can find some insight here. Im in the middle of changing the front brakes right now, driver side was missing a pad so it was just grinding on the metal. so horrible. So far i have got new wheels from a 90s explorer. I replaced VC gaskets and painted the VCs. I also got a box of stuff i need to put on; Cap, rotor, plugs and wires. I want to get this thing running smoothly before i work on any of the aesthetics. Im familiar with automotive forums, I also own a 2000 eclipse gt that i did suspension, intake, headers, as well as many other things too. I joined here looking for some information and knowledge on getting this ranger going strong.

What part you in, I am in the Upland SoCal area. My next project will hopefully be a 4X4 of sorts.. Lots of information on these boards especially in the 4 Wheel Drive area of Rangers.

The easiest thing to upgrade to would be to put on a Dana 35 from '90 to '95 ranger or explorer. You'll need to swap the whole TTB not just the gears and axles. Thats the next best thing. You have a Dana 28 in case you was woundering. I like that paint or decal job i've never seen that before i'd rock it.

Thanks for the info guys! Yeah i heard that the 35 would fit up and i am most likely going to do that swap eventually.

Im in Oceano. Its same area as pismo beach. It is where the sand dunes are located
