I was digging through my fiancee's mom's shed today and came across these guys... I asked her landlord if I could have them and she said sure, take them. They're about half worn and two of them have some good cracks going on but they'll get me started. Yeah they're ATs... whatever... I've got a lead on some BFG 33" muds that I may swap for in the future.

What backspacing should I be looking for when I get rims? These are going on my '86 - D28 and 7.5. Also, I've heard that it's better to go with 8" wide vs 10" especially when aired down....true?

are they 32x11.50? yeah a 8" rim will work fine, any wider tire and id say go with a 10" wheel. Good steal too!

Oh, yeah, 32x11.50. I remember typing that but then I deleted that paragraph. It's been a long week.

haha i know what you mean by a long week... i got windows tinted last friday then going to a wedding on sat and my spider gears exploded and caused a c clip to come off causing the axle with the attached wheel to tear apart my bed. then to fix it i choose to do the exporer 8.8 swap with disks so i had to do all the mods, got it installed and moving again, and ive worked all week, and all i can say is WOW... lol i need a day off. And still gotta do body work and paint, and insurance wont cover anything

ANYWHO, back on topic, yeah a 8 or 10 in wheel will work fine. Most ppl will say go with the 8, esp if your gonna air it down and the fact that they are better than 10s on your ball joints, but i personally like a 10in because i like the wider stance and ive had no ball joint problems from runnin them for 2yrs

Damn, that blows man...been there...for a while I had to get rides from my fiancee because one truck had four lug studs snap off and the other truck had a dead brake booster. Got em both fixed in about 3 hours one night though.

I am looking to widen my truck's stance as much as I can...would just getting rims with real low backspacing do it? I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the 8" rims to save a little money. Summit has some white steel wheels with 3.75 backspacing for $35/each...seems reasonable but I'm not really familiar with that whole deal yet.

well 3.75 is about the standard backspacing, so youlll only get a little bit of a wider stance. If you get the 8s, and still want to widen the stance, look into a set of wheel spacers.

3.75 backspacing is fine with an 8" rim. These won't play hell on your bearings.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've got wheels and lift ordered so hopefully I'll start a build thread here soon.
