New 2020 Ford Super Duty 7.3 Big Block Coming Out!

I know "what" vvt is and I know how it works on a regular dohc engine like a v-tech, I'm just having a hard time picturing the setup on an old fashion single cam pushrod engine. :dunno:

I did see where the specs is advertising vvt on the new 7.3. I am guessing it is going to be the same type of setup as the ohv ones. Just only gonna need it for one camshaft. I wish they would have eliminated vvt all together. I have never been a fan of it. That being said if it performs better than the old 460 and gets a little better fuel mileage then maybe its worth it. This is all speculation at this point.

As much as it pains me to say it this does look like a worthy replacement for the ol 460. The V10/6.2 are both to rev happy IMO.

If they can make the powerband in that idle-3500 range like a real truck motor, itll be great.

And yes i hate LEDs. Am radio is to full of BS anymore, and i sold all my 8 tracks.

I agree. Under 3500 would be great. My 8.1 makes max torque at 3,200. It is nice not having to wined it out towing.

I miss those sealed beams!

More accurately, I miss the days when someone in NHTSA actually bothered to regulate headlights so I wouldn't be totally blinded every time another car comes by. They can't possibly even be looking at headlight patterns any more.

VVT in a single cam engine is just rotating the cam relative to the crank, whereas with separate intake and exhaust cams you can do much more. Ford's IMRC was really a pretty effective form of VVT but mechanically very simple - on my Cougar Duratc V6 there are two different cam profiles and it makes a significant difference when the secondaries open up.

And here I can't wait to get rid of mine. :icon_twisted:

Agreed, fun when you meet one that is pulling a trailer, especially across a bridge so it gets to bouncing. :shok:

My other vehicle is a fairly low car, and I have sat at traffic lights with the visor down and the mirror dimmed - sandwiched between SUVs with LED brake lights in front and some godawful bright headlights behind.

I hated driving a car before LED's even came out because of that. :fie:

I have the bright-as-f&$k LED headlights in my lifted daily driver. If I stop at a light behind your car, you better be wearing sunblock.
I get out of work about 12:30-1am, Every traffic light I stop at is 2 lanes going straight, so I always try to go into the empty lane. (BUT, that just makes the a$$hole in the other lane race in front of me!!) If I do have to wait behind someone, usually shut the headlights off and just leave the marker lights on until the light goes green.

LED technology isn't even that great to be using it over HID in OEM cars. And whoever puts plug n play LEDs in their halogen reflector housings is just an ignorant prick as far as I'm concerned.

Give me round or square wagner/sylvania sealed beams anyday.

Why?

They dont yellow out, there cheaper to replace, eaiser to replace, and are plenty bright.

One other question....will the 2wd 2020 superduty still run twin I beam?

it sure seems to me they're not doing away with the twin ibeam anytime soon. I doubt they'll go to an a-arm suspension.
