I'm looking for some tires for my '87 Ranger 2wd. Not looking for mud tires, I want something that will ride good and handle good. Its running 195/70/14s now, I'm either going to go back with them or put 205/70/14s on it. I switched to a set of 15's off of a Bronco II, but they are much heavier and are killing my gas mileage... got to go back to the 14's.

Any suggestions on a reasonable priced tire that will last a good while. I know the tire shop has some, but they're gonna want to sell me the cheapest thing they've got since its a 14 inch... not a 20 or 22 like everybody else wants to run these days or a mud tire. I do pull a car dolly with it some, so something that'll hold the weight okay would be nice... thanks for the input guys. Most likely I'd prefer to order a set online if possible.

Guess everyone has done got rid of the original 14's.... :dntknw:

Yes tires can be found...misread thought you were after rims.
Dayton tires seeem tohave a reasonable all season tire...bridgestone dueler isn't bad either

What kind did you get from Discount Tire? What did they run?

Dominator made by Cooper Tire. they also carry a private label called SA4. the Dominators are 60 each, the SA4s are 50 each.

if you havnt got tires yet you can get on discount tires web site and search by size then compare the different tires you are interested in. They do a pretty good write up on the tires and there are customer reviews also. Although i dont really listen to the customer reviews because its been my experience that most of the general public doesn't know jack shit about tires or anything else mechanically related for that matter. If you happen to fall into this category, no offense if you do, and you have some spare time you can go down to you local tire shop and speak with one of them about a good tire. Id talk to the shop foreman or store manager, they tend to be there the longest and really know there stuff, just a lil tip since i use to work at Discount Tire in Colorado ;) Hope your search goes well and you find the set of tires you are looking for.
