Okay, i'm worn out. I have a 1983 Ford ranger, 2.8L V6, manual transmission.

The shift lever boot will not bolt to the extension housing....the dude I purchased the truck from had a different bolt in each of the four threaded holes, none of which were the right size. I purchased the original Ranger shop repair manual off ebay, and the repair guide is very extensive.....except it does not identify the specific bolt. It shows it as bolt "605905." The problem is that many of the bolts have the same identifier, but Ford makes many bolts with this identifier + an extension. 605905-xxxx, 605905-yyyy, etc, each a different size. I called two ford dealerships, and they gave me the part number 605905.....but the bolt is discontinued with Ford. They were also unable to provide a threading specification. I purchased a pack of these bolts off of ebay, wrong size.

E3TZ7A039M EXTENSION HOUSING - 1984 BRONCO II, 4WD, 1983-84 RANGER 4WD - toyo koygo
(this would contain the female threads, no mention of it in the diagrams that i've seen. Toyo Koygo shift lever.)

So, without a thread size or specific part number, I can't find the correct thread size. I've purchased a few different sizes from parts stores, and I can't find one that fits.

Do you know the thread size or specific part number?

Thanks for your help,

Jason

I'll presume you are talking about bolting the shiftere assembly to the extention housing as the "Boot" bolts to the floor plate

It's been so long since I've seen a Toyo-Koygo transmission I frankly can't remember.

I'm 99% sure the bolt you are looking for is 8mmX1.25 pitch and about 30mm long

If the threads are buggered up you can always drill them out and heli-coil them to EITHER the proper 8mmX1.25 thread or can substitute 5/16-18 (US Standard) bolts of the correct length.

Yes sir, the bolts that go through the shifter boot and into the extension housing. I will look for that size bolt at the hardware store and give it a shot!

As for the heli-coil, I have definitely looked into that. I had only seen the flange-top inserts, but apparently there are other types that thread right in.

I appreciate your help! I will try out the screw size above....if it's a no go, I may re-drill the holes and tap to a larger size bolt or purchase heli-coil.

Please stop calling the shifter "Tower" "the shift boot" you are confusing me.

the boot may be captive on the lever but the boot is a cosmetic irrelevancy for the purposes of mechanical/functional discussion

the "Boot" screws to the floor.

The boot does serve a real purpose, but unless you can shift the trans that point is moot.

Hey Allan, while your on the topic, what's the bolt size for the M5? Between my 5 trucks, I can't find an extra 3 bolts.

Do you mean thet three little bolts that hold the shifter retaining disc to the top cover of an M5OD-R1 transmission?

They are 6mmX1.0 thread

On my transmission I helicoiled these to 1/4-28 english thread, so I could use better bolts than Hurst supplied with my shifter.

I wanted something I could safety wire so they wouldn't rattle loose.... again.

Awesome thanks.

I've also got another missing set of bolts...
The ones that go through the output flange into the front driveshaft. You wouldn't happen to know off-hand what those are would you?
