Yes I have looked for hours have not found anywear that shows were it is. As great as chilton repair manual its pretty vague on the location and how get to it.

I think my nss is going out because sometimes when I'm driving then park then turn it off then minuts later (any amount of time), such as running into the convenience store for a slurpee, it won't start unlest I move the shifter back and fourth a few times then it will start.

Vehicle in question is 88 b2 auto Eddie Bauer.:temper:

On an '88 auto, it should be on the side of the transmission. (Which side or how far up IDK.)

Just look for the part you find when you get it at the parts store.

It is on the driver side right above where the shift lever cable connects to the lever, probably about the 2 o'clock position on the case with a three or four wire plug the top will be yellow. Be careful taking it off as it is just a sheet metal housing and your wrench will twist it off they are most of the time stuck and a real pain to get out. Good luck

Thanks a lot I have looked under but haven't found somthing tht looks like the picture in the book or online. I haven't removed the cover yet and didn't want to if I didn't have to but now I know that I have to its OK.

Go to this page: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AutoTrans.shtml

You will have an A4LD transmission in an '88 BII

Scroll down to the A4LD section and you will see 4 pictures of this trans
The first picture is looking at the Drivers side of trans, you can see the shift level and just above it the NSS, black round cylinder, although it will usually metallic color.

NSS is a spring loaded plunger type switch, inside the trans on the shift rod is a cam, this cam pushes up or releases the plunger on the NSS in the various gear selections.
Park and Neutral will connect TFI and Starter relay to the START circuit on ignition switch, so starter will activate.
If trans is in Reverse then Reverse lights are connected to power from this same switch.

Oh dang I guess my research skills are not up to par if I found that before I asked I wouldn't have asked but hopefully others will see this thread and not have to ask.

Thanks a lot!!!
