Nerf Bars and Sliders

Nerf Bars

Will Nerf Bars protect my rockers or do they not sit low enough to protect them?

rock sliders are uselly much stronger. i have smitty built nurf bars and they have saved me acouple times but they have flex it to my rocker panle, nerf bars are for show, rock sliders are there to protect your body. so they are two different things. im getting rid of mine and makeing rock sliders, much better.
 
don't they sell Nerf bars that have thicker tubing? and that wont flex?
 
another thing I was thinking I don't rock crawl and I do only minor wheeling so sliders might not be necessary
 
probley but the nerf bars are going to get dented in , the arent made to bash up agents things, they are made to step on. they are just to thin of steel.
 
ya i was going to say if you arent doing hard wheeling, were you are dragging you rig over rocks then nerf bars are fine, mine have helped. so get nerf bars that would be fine i think.
 
ya I will probably get Nerf bars. So you live in Black Diamond, where do you go wheeling at. I live in Kent I usually go to Tinkham Road in North Bend but I need to find a new place.
 
i go out to the foot hills ravensdale area, but alot of it is getting shut down, i have heard there is alot of wheeling in north bend but i dont know were, is tenkum exit good? so latly we have been going to tahuya and evans.
 
ya the Tinhkam Road exit is alright. There isn't rock crawling that I know of, it is an old logging road with a few trails that go off the road. Last time I was up there I found a trail that goes to some power lines and there was some good stuff out there. Later today I am going up there again to see what other trails I can find.
 
Nerf bars will be utterly useless as far as protection. They'll likely fold up and into your door if you are bottomed out trying to support weight with them.

Sliders are tied to the frame, made from thicker structural tubing, and are designed to carry the truck's weight.
 
well I am not going to do any rock crawling. My truck it used for mostly on road driving, but some times I do light off-roading I would say on average I go wheeling once a month but I do a lot of driving in the snow.
 
I'd still steer away from them. I've got a set on my Chevy (from when it was my DD), and they are pretty thin wall tubing. I wouldn't trust them to hold up to hitting anything offroad. Sliders are pretty cheap to buy, probably competitively priced to a set of nerf bars in reality. They're even cheaper to make yourself.....
 
I'd vote on making your self a set of sliders if you've got the tools. IMO, they look better and are a heck of a lot more functional than nerf bars. And if you ever need to air-lift your truck out of somewhere....wheeeeeee!
