Need turbo help

I have been doing quite a bit of research but still have a lot of questions.

What I have:
86 ranger 2.3
98 ranger 2.5 (threw a rod through the oil pan.)
C4 with 2.3 bell housing that I'm having built an converted to 4wd.

Things I know I need:
Exhuast manifold
Turbo
brown top injectors
turbo ECU
wiring harness from turbo coupe
a few 2.3 turbo sensors

my questions:
1. I found a guy locally that has an ecu and maybe a wiring harness. What is the going rate for them so I don't get screwed?
2. can I use anything from the 2.5, DIS, crank if not damaged, ect.?
3. can I use either wiring harness from the 2.3 or 2.5 to save me some $?

I building this motor for an off-road ranger and would like to keep it not to radical but powerfull.

any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Add forged pistons to your list of needs... I wouldn't do a turbo setup without them... Yes, you may be able to run 5-6 psi without them, but who wants to do that? Soon enough you'll turn it up to 10-15 psi, just to see how it goes, and boom... At least, I know I would :D

I knew I forgot some parts.

forged pistons and rods.

what I would like to do is build the 2.5 with the 8 plug head and DIS with forged rods and pistons and leave the 2.3 together since it only has 25,000 mile on it since it was rebuilt.

another question.

If I got a EEC tweaker or tuner could I use the factory computer from the 98 2.5?

All Lima 2.3 rods are forged... Only thing different is forged pistons... Doing the 2.5 up sounds like a good plan, though if it threw a rod through the oil pan I'd make sure it didn't damage anything in the block on the way out, and have the crank checked out also... Then, I'd start from the crank up and rebuild it with all new parts, maybe reuse the stock crank if it isn't damaged...

will a tc ecu work with DIS or do I have to use a distributor?

I am pretty sure you can go DIS as DIS and TFI (distributor) take the same input signal. However I believe the 98 has EDIS and I don't know what you have to do to make that work.

if this set ups going into a 95+ ranger id just us ethe stock ecu and get an sct programmer

Yes, you can can use the DIS instead of the distirbutor. Scotts90ranger just did the swap on his truck. Not really that much trouble according to Scott but he does have good mechanical aptitude.

98's came with EDIS which will work with several tuners. If your friend has both the 98 harness and ecu you could use them. If you find a Turbocoupe you could just repin your harness and use the turbocoupe ecu. You just have to figure out which way you want to go.

Just went and talk to a local guy that has a bunch of tc parts. I bought an LA3, VAM, wiring harness, and turbo with exhaust manifold for $250. My plans now are to put forgrd pistons in my 86 motor and get the rest of the stuff I need, injectors, etc.

I'mm not sure which turbo I bought since I couldn't clearly read the casing on the exhaust side. the exhaust manifolds casting number ends with CC. if any body knows which turbo this might be please chime in.

its a Garrett with a A/R .60 on the compressor side. not sure on the exhaust side, couldn't read it.

it's 50/50 either a .48 or .63 it doesn't really make that big of a difference if it is a street driven truck unless you are trying to suck the last pony out of it. If the guy could tell you whether it came out of a standard (.48) or a automatic(.63)you would know for sure. I had to really clean mine with a wire brush to read the exhaust side.
