I removed the drivers side out of my spare d- 28. now i need P- side I got the spindle off cut the boot off and am not realy seeing anything that looks like the exploded vies of a Keystone clamp on the web site . my main truck just got a dana 35 up grade so i got a beater truck for all its hand me down parts so i got a lot of spare parts for the beater to run an brake but I need them axles and I want to learn how to do this in my shop not the trail . THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

I must have missed something. What is the problem?

YEP thats what I will do but cant I take axle apart at the rubber boot . Like say this was on the trail and i broke an outer and had a complete spare axle to slide in.

I want to know too! Come on gurus!!!!

AFAIK, the outer shaft should just pull out through the spindle like the other side, once you've pulled the boot apart. I can't quite remember how mine was thought, it's been a while.

Well with that Cclip on there the inner shaft isn't coming out no matter how you do it. If you really wanted you could disassemble the ujoint in place.

Your other option is to cut it out.

the outer part of the shaft will seperate at the splined slip joint. Make sure to get it back in the correct place when you put it back, the spline only fits correctly in one position. You need to remove the pig to take out the inner shaft.

later today I will drop the pumkin and pull the C CLIP but cant I slide the axle apart at the KEYSTONE clamp after the U joint. It looks like that in the exploded view in the tec section.

thanks Martin thats What I was hopin for I will pull the c - clip so i get the inner shaft to the slip joint is just being stuborn.

If the slip won't come apart, it's probably frozen with rust. Beating on it with a hammer may or may not help (use some PB blaster on it too).

sounds to me like the slip is junk from rustweldyitis....

half the axles in the rust belt are useless because of that.

and most axles are certainly easily incorrectly phasable and will not have an offset wide tooth.

most 28's have the wide tooth but not all. most 35's dont have the wide tooth. so always make sure you aRE PHASED CORRECTLY.

Yea, I've had a couple of those axles frozen at the slip-joint. If the boot was torn, a clamp was loose or the little cap at the end of the slip got knocked out the joint will fill with crap and rust solid. I was able to salvage one by soaking it with PB for a few days while randomly whacking it with a hammer. I finally got apart using a slide hammer. Once it was cleaned up it worked great until I toasted a joint and took out the stub shaft. I still have the slip side as a spare though.
