Today we got alot of snow , and I thought it would be fun to try the 4x4 sytem out. What I want to know is I own a 2003 ranger with a 4.0 when i go from 4 high to 4 low or to 2wd what is the proper way of doing this procedure.thanks again

If auto trans, you must be stopped, foot pressing on brake pedal, trans in Neutral or Park, IIRC.

Manual trans, you must be stopped, foot on brake, clutch held in.

2Hi to 4Hi, shift anytime you want. Same for 4Hi to 2Hi. Works at any speed, but the manual may say to only shift at less than 50 mph or so.

not any speed, going from 2HI-4HI and vice versa, you must be going no faster than 45 and if you are? i really don't want to know what will happen if you do that repeatedly, i did it once on accident and it didnt break anything but i sure am not going to do it again! :icon_twisted: it made a big clunk

That could be a difference between the Live Axle version and PVH hubs.
My 2000 never makes any thunks or noise when switching; I think the fastest I've engaged it was 60 mph.

You can shift into 4hi at any speed. Do it at 100mph.

As long as you have the 'shift on the fly' system and not the manual locking hubs.

I do it all the time.

2hi to 4hi its recamended by ford no faster than 50 the big deal is low you have to be stoped in nutral or park if yuor moving could cause major damage. Fords with push buutton or the turn dial select will not allow to go in 4 low without being in nutral or park.

Thanks everyone will remember.Yesterday was fun in the ranger it performed very well love this truck.:yahoo:
