Need to get something straight here.

Ok, I own a 2006 Cobalt (2.2 LS, nothing special) and I have a stainless cat-back exhaust system on it because the factory one is super-restrictive. Had awesome power and moderate MPG gains.

But, as with most if not all cat-back systems for a 4-banger, the tailpipe is a 3" "cannon". I hate cannons and will cut it off and weld on a smaller, better looking tip in the summer.

Here's the problem: Kids think that a cannon means "race me". No. I don't want to race, I want to drive from point A to point B in a relatively easy manner. Over the months I've had a few kids try to "toy" with me at 70MPH, but today, this just made me snap.

A kid in a Dodge car with a "fake cannon" was in the slow lane doing 65. I cruise at 69 and eventually started to pass him just like the 5 cars ahead of me did. Something about "me" made him speed up to 70+ and play highway hopscotch. I'm tired, want to get home and work on my r/c cars and get a bite to eat, no mood for this whatsoever.

For 15 minutes, this progressed. Finally, he got the hint that I don't want to play. At my last light, I was in the left, he in the right and he kept staring at me.

I snapped.

When the light turned green, I stomped her down and sped away to 55 in a 45 zone and went home. I'm beating myself up for doing that because one, it's my DD, I can't afford to beat it up. And two, if a cop was there, I would've gotten a ticket for being stupid.

So, just to let everyone know, just because we have cannons doesn't mean we want to race. We just want to get to where we are going. Keep it at the strip, like I shoulda done.

well, a tip change is still going to emit the sound. you could look into getting one of those cone inserts for the pipe that cuts down on the noise and not the flow. summit has them...just a thought

It's not really the sound, because it does sound nice. Not loud or rappy, but "tuner". It's the actual cannon that throws a red flag.

I here you on that dude. I got an mr2 turbo, and every little punk in a civic hears the blow off valve and tries to race me. ok 1 a little civic with a fart can and intake isnt gonna match even a stock turbo car, and 2 my cars not stock. whats the deal with these idiots? civics arent fast. and 3, why would you spend $15k on a civic just to make it do what a trans am or mustang does out of the box?

Yeah I havea problem with some of the local trucks and my rangers. Not with cannoned ricers cause they last about a month here... They always rev up and spin the mud tyres. Its really annoying...

I have a Tsudo exhaust. Not a bad setup for $195 off eBay.

Yeah, stupid kids. That's a good way to get yourself killed, especially in the winter months when it's cold and icy outside. Not what I need after a hard day at work.

Now, my 302 ranger, I won't race it, but it is fun to unleash the electric exhaust dumps and make some noise. That's fun on the highway, but again, I show restraint and keep them closed in town ( nuisance to the locals and a hayday for a cop).

those dumps are fun to mess with cops with. i had it set up on a 90 rx7 once and went buzzing through gatlinburg and when the cop whipped around to stop me i hit the button and was like wtf?? i didnt do anything.

I had a Neon SRT-4, every punk with a civic wanted to try it and every punk with a civic tried to get me to race and every punk with a civic thought I had no balls because I wouldn't race it.......

what was worse was when I had my last Saturn. I paid $200 for it and the exhaust was rotted away..... people thought it was a ricer and tried to race it.

my brother's stock 1.8t Jetta will embarrass most Civics.

my 89 ranger, 92 exploder, and 93 exploders never had mufflers i crushed the rangers and never put one on. the 92 ex fell off when i jumped it and well the 93...it fell off on the highway. EVERYONE with riced out cars wanted to race. it was funny when dried mud clumps would fall off when i they rode my back bumper

I get it all the time here too...I still have yet to figure out what goes thru some of these kids minds when they pull up next to me....Just by looking at my car, you know that it cannot be stock, but the sound alone should be a dead giveaway....

What's worse is that they brag that their 30 mpg car with "race inspired installs" are V8 killers. No, it's not. You're an idiot, and are lying to impress your skank in the passenger seat.

Iron, I'm also guilty of dropping my 5.0 into 3rd and usually after that first pass, they go away. The typical rice really are just irritating. However, for the nicely built 4 cylinders that do cruise the streets, my hats off to you. The ones that HAVE the money to built a quality car tend to be more mature anyways.

We can all expect to get that attitude with modded vehicles. We just have to fight that urge and ignore them.

In my cobalt, along with the cat-back exhaust, I have a GM Performance cold air intake. It unlocked more MPG and ponies, but nowhere near a "V8 killer". It just runs a whole lot better with these 2 upgrades.

Now a body kit? Spoiler? Fancy lo-pro wheels? Heck no. 100% not a fan of any of these unless I need it for aerodynamics at the track, which is never.

My brother has a Neon SRT-4 with many upgrades that total to around 320HP. He will pull hard off the line, but will not break the speed limit(turbo launches are the best, right BDAB?). We always laugh at the guys who just keep going..............

I have an actual drag car.........
I street drive it. I pull up at lights and guys in cavaliers with primer body kits drop the car in neutral and try to blow the motor, and I'm like no seriously...... I will kill you, I always baby it because the stall and shift kit + posi trac can do bad things leaving a light...

I don't race on the street, I don't mind the people wanting to race...... you just don't and watch them get pulled over. it's not that hard.

The only thing I ever raced was my sled pulling truck and I only launched off the line and got a half length ahead........ to unload the side-pipe into there open window because they want everybody to hear the bass.
