Need to fix damage from drop in bed liner

You could see if a local quickie lube would let you use an empty bay for an hour.

i might try that, because i'm not exactly sure i want to spend upwards of almost two hours just for heating the spots up to paint.

besides the directions on the can, if i bypass those what is an acceptable temperature? what are the results if it's colder than the paint can work with?

The paint gets all weird and won't lay right.

Really, I would put the bedliner back in and forget about it until spring and fix it right. It has lasted this long and that is as bad as it is... a couple more months won't hurt much.

i'm not sure i really can.

the holes on the bed rails were from the topper.

the bed liner sat in there, and had like plastic pieces on the back side of the liner and the screws went into those. idk if i could get those plastic pieces back in there like that.

think it'll be okay if i just lay it in there and have sandbags in there basically all winter?

it's not like it would blow away with sand bags in there... but would it blow away with just being in there and tailgate up?

I got some of those stakepocket loops, unscrewed the loop and removed the square top plate but left the stud sticking out. I stuck some grease on the top of the stud. I let the liner fall where it wanted to sit, pulled it back up and drilled where the grease was. After that I pushed the studs thru the holes and installed the square top plate with the loop on top. Looks pretty sharp IMO and is pretty functional too.

And yes, the bedliner will fly out if unsecured (sandbags would hold it in) and they will fly surprisingly far too. With mine the back ends would move around ALOT and wear on the paint before I did the stakepocket loop trick.

if i got the pop up stake pocket things, and cut out a hole in the liner corresponding to where the holes are, that would hold it down? maybe like if i used silicone sealant to secure the stakes to the bed liner.

idk, i think just having sandbags in it will have to do... i already have two sandbags (70 pounders i think) and don't really want to sink any more money into something that is coming off in 5 months

i hated my topper lol... it looked like a grandpa truck (weird that i bought it... FROM MY GRANDPA)
i know how you feel, i dont know who owned my truck but i think it was a heavy set old grandpa, one it had the topper, two my drivers seat feals like i got rolled on by a steam roller

okay just noticed this, idk how i didn't know before...

anyway, the bedliner has i believe 4 or 3 holes along the very back of the bed (where the bed meets the tailgate) to secure it. but the rest of them are on the sides with the plastic pieces that i won't be able to get secured again.

would that be enough to keep it down? without sandbags.

When mine flew away the front came up first... so I would say if anything you need something to hold down up there.

okay... think it would be enough to sink a screw in the middle up front?

would one screw be enough?

or maybe two, both the same distance from the middle.

used a 60 grit sanding sponge, and some denatured alcohol, and rustoleum's automotive silver paint. looks decent for my first spray job ever. is clear coat readily available in a spray can? should i put clear over the top of it? is it worth it?

That does not look bad at all, i'd not worry about clear for now but to answer your question, yes you can get clear in a can.

alright cool, and thanks.

i'll be putting my drop in bed liner back in this weekend then. i hope it doesn't rub through the paint just over the winter though!

i've got a new job at a car wash and have made almost 40 bucks in tips alone in the past two days with only about 8 hours of work, so i'm ready to start working there a lot to try and put some money away so i can afford a real legitimate paint job in the spring by a professional.

not really sure what paint combo i want to go with.

or if i should do a paint job or if i should do a spray in bed liner.... who knows?! maybe i will be able to afford both... thx guys
