Need Suspension Info/Help

My Parents just bought a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 supercab, It needs all 4 upper and lower ball joints, I went to a local piston ring and they said you have to buy the whole control arm assembly with ball joint. Is this true?


Also the front suspension, is it torsion bar, or coil spring?

98's would be torsion bar. Anybody please correct me if i am wrong!

Yes it will be torsion bar. The lower balljoints are servicable, the upper ball joints are not. The entire control arm needs to be replaced.

i replaced my upper on my 99 and they can be serviced now as well!!!! just got them from the local o'reillys.... they will run you around a hundred bucks each... for the uppers

They are torsion bars. Go on eBay and look for ball joints on there. Local autoparts stores want $120 for one control arm w/ ball joints. I went on eBay and I bought upper control arms with ball joints already installed for both sides and lower ball joints with Tie rod ends for around $130.
