I need a spindle nut socket (or wrench) for automatic hubs.
Does anyone know for sure what socket manufacturer and part number is for this.
This needs to fit the Ford factory original spindle nut for 1996 Ranger Dana35 with AUTOMATIC hubs.

I see many sockets listed on websites but they all appear to be for manual hub nuts.
.
I will buy from a TRS member if you've already switch to manual hubs.
(I was planing to make one but buying might be quicker.)
.
Please refrain from telling me I'm a fool for keeping auto hubs, thanks.:yahoo:

i got mine from the same store where i got my manual hubs, autozone i think. was around 15 bucks. dont know the mfg and i dont have it with me at the moment to get a part #.

most the time when i run into this problem...and no one is looking....i use a hammer and chisel....shhhh...and use an educated quess when tightening...

Do you have a harbor freight close by?

I know when I replaced my autos to manuals, I think I used a chisel or something to get it off. Do you know what the torque specs are though to put it back on?

Accoring to the HF, you need the 2-3/8” rounded hex locknut socket is designed for 1990-current Ford Ranger, Bronco II and Explorer models with automatic locking hubs

Couldn't get the key out?:damnit1: I just went through this, this summer. I got an extra couple of nuts(WITH KEYS:icon_thumby:) and hub parts at the local bone yard. Funny thing is after all was said and done I looked in the Haynes manual just for giggles. It was all in there; the tools, torque specs, :shok: etc. dur.

The socket I got was from a Sanels made by SPX or OTC(?) #6936 [2 & 3/8"] Rounded Hex. I'll have to double check but if I still have an extra nut/key I'll let you know.

***EDIT*** Just went back and re-read and see that you're not looking for the nut too, just the socket.

with man. locking hubs. Tighten the adjusting nut to 35 ft-lbs/47 Nm while
turning hub. Back off 90°. Retighten the adjusting
nut to 16 in-lbs/1.8 Nm. Install lock washer and
tighten locknut to 150 ft-lbs/203 Nm. Endplay
should be 0-.003". Install axle shaft spacer and
clip the snap ring to the end of the shaft.

2 3/8 inch socket for that. Napa carries them. Usually a one day order.

This is an interesting discussion. thank you for sharing
That's pretty good.
Good post. I appreciate it

Spindle and Auto Hub replacement

Hello everyone,

The auto locking hubs on my 1994 4x4 Ranger 4.0 Super Cab, have died along with the bearings and spindle. I went to Ford and they want 450 for each side can anyone tell me where I can find the auto hub assembly and spindle?
