I have a 1995 ford rnager 2.4L 5 speed manual transmission. Its got the stock 3.73 tail gears in the 7.5 with 29`s for tires. the tires kinda killed the power in this truck. I just got a powertrax locker, and figure since in going to be there why not do a much need gear swap.

Im thinking either 4.10s ord 4.56 gears, its about 90 percent city driving, and im looking for more grunt down low for towing, climbing hills, and putting the soon to be locked rear end to better use. any suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks for reading

oh man you definitely want the 4.56. they seem to be cheaper and will give you a great boost over the 3.73s. 3.73 to 4.10 isnt that big of a jump and youll more than likely wish you had gone deeper. whereas 3.73 to 4.56 is a large jump and will have a very noticeable gain in oomph

thank you for you reply, I agree with you there, now when i do the swap will 1st gear still be usuable, and not zing past too fast to get any use from it?

cool, thank you, now the 4.10s were actually my first choice, when i put 4.10s in my mach 1 it made a pretty good difference. i do plan on getting up to atleast a 33 inch tire, wich is why im now contimplating the 4.56 gear. im just worried about lossing most of a usable 1st gear, but going to a taller tire should offset that a bit. From my experiances so far, the over head cam engines like to get the rpm up there, and thats about where they seem happy. any oter suggestions?

thanks again

i think if youre going to 33 in tires you might wanna go with the 4.56s,they will keep youre rpms in youre engines sweet spot when crusing,4.10 if youre staying with the 29 in tire, but its up to you

Going taller then a 31" tire, I would go 4.56. I liked the 4.10's with a 28" tire, some felt it was too much gearing though. Can't argue with an MPG increase and the good ol' butt meter LOL.

I will be running a 27" tire now though. New rims and tires hopefully by the end of the week. I found it hard to get a front tire under 26" and a rear over 28" and getting matching tread patterns.

thanks for all of your help guys, looks like ill be going with the 4.10`s, now the have to go through all of the fun of installing them with the new locker.
