my buddy has a 96 ranger 4x4 4.0 well yesterday he noticed it was getting really hot so he got it to work.. when i got their i brought some rad fluid an added 2 gallons .. well their was no drips or any thing so i pull the dip stick an its full of rad fluid not a good sign.. truck only has 76k on it.. he just bought it b4 winter.
well any ways we tore into it tonite an the problem was a bad lower intake gasket.. ran some cheap oil in it for a few minutes got almost all the gunk out of it an what not.. but i noticed when we first started tearing into it the intake hose from the throttle body to the maf sensor has a ton of condensation in it. enough to drip/drizzle out.. well the truck seems to run great starts up good.. but after it sits for a few minutes it seems to idle rough an fall on its face.. if you unplug the maf sensor it idles up an is fine. once its plugged back in it dies..

i have a 95. with a 4.0 an i unplugged mine an the idle didnt change.. once i plugged it back in i noticed the idle did stumble a tiny bit but not a ton.. does this sound like a bad maf sensor? no check gauge lights or check engine lights

Try cleaning it with some electrial cleaner. Don't touch the little springs with your fingers. Just spray them down and get them clean. That should work. If not, you might have to replace it. I replaced one on my 1998 2.5L Ranger. I cleaned it for the first time and it was fine for about a week until it started spark knocking again. When I replaced it, it ran really good and it quit spark knocking. It might actually be better to just replace it. If you do get a new one, reset your computer by unpluging your battery for about 10 to 15 minuets. Good Luck!!
