So, since I have got started back on working on my 97 I have had thoughts running through my mind almost ever second of the day. Ok this is were i'm at. I have just got done with a motor swap, stock 3.0 with 72k on it, along with the fuel system, interior swap. so pretty well all my truck has 72k on ti besides the axles. Needless to say the thing has no power with my 34s, So that brought me to needing gears. I have found a 44/9" combo with 4.56 gears and some other goodies. I would do all the fabing myself. really don't think I would ever need the bigger axles, I have not broke a stock 35 yet, but I did crack a lift bracket, to add my front end is pretty well shot, wheel bearings, u joints. Also to add that when I pulled my bed off I seen that my frame is tweaked a bit, has the rear shackle bent up, Not sure how I would address this. I have a 01 2wd frame, I thought about back cutting/welding the back half or just swap my cab over, was thinking I would not have to cut the engine cross member to clear the sas if I go that way, and a lot more room to do the sas by going with ground up. also this would leave me still being able to wheel a bit this summer till i got ready to swap everthing over.
Sorry for the long post just looking for some input on my bulid.

The question you have about doing a solid axle all depends on how hard you will be using this truck off-road and how big of tires you will be using.

Think your heading in the right direction.

Pretty sure the only thing stopping him from running a larger tire is gears. Sounds like he's fine with the ttb. I would just do the sas and be done with it.

Same here. To me, if you have the time/funds/skill/willingness to do it, sas swap would be a no brainer.
