Need some info

That would be an FI intake? From what year?

Someone had advised me that the 86 FI intake is the best one to use for a carb adaptor with the Holley 350...someone makes an adaptor that fits exactly for that application...I think I priced it out a few years ago and was looking at about $600 for new parts...but that was just about the time I found the carb and intake that I have now from the 78 Mustang II...so I went with the less expensive option.

i think it is racer-walsh who makes the adapter.

Thanks for the link to your post...I'd forgotten about that one...but I think now you're gonna get your brain picked for a few days...lol...

Is that engine still working or did you end up swapping another one in?

still got it and she is still running strong.
I have quite a few parts gathered now for the smallblock swap which I hope to get going on this spring.

and are you taking dibs on your old motor? I'd like the head and intake/carb...will send you some special delivery from Farmville...lol...

Seriously...if you're thinking of parting out the old engine let me know...but there are probably 20 people on here that would be willing to pay cash for something that works...

Very nice Flamin. How closely did your adaptor match the bottom of the carb? Was any work required to match the intake manifold to the carb/spacer? Either way, it's nice to have a Bridgeport, or at least a friend with one, isn't it? It can really change the course of a project, having the means to make a custom part. I went way overboard with mine. I matched my spacers almost perfectly to the carb and each other, and my intake manifold to the spacers. I lost my original pictures, but will get new pictures up sometime this week or next. It is a beautiful piece if I do say so, and I still have the computer file I created, so it is entirely reproducible from a stock setup. If you did not need to modify your intake manifold, Flamin, I would say your setup is probably more viable for someone without access to a CNC machine or hours to spend screwing with a die grinder/ pulling a manifold after the first one gets screwed up. Edit- Your cam is similar to mine. Mine is 266 advertised, 218 @ .050, intake and exhaust. Your .050 would probably be similar to mine, as close as the advertised duration is. My lobe separation is 112. My idle is pretty rough at 800, clears up completely by 1100, and is happiest on the high end. I'm going to lose the bottom end one of these days.

Mark, here's to your 10000th post,, that's a hell of a lot of posts. If there are some people that would like this type of setup I ought to set about reproducing mine, lol. I probably would, had esslinger not beaten me to it. I am curious, also, how well the Holley spacer/adaptor they sell matches a stock 2.3 manifold.

I did not have to do anything to the manifold other than remove the two studs and make a block off plate for the egr. all the mods I did was to the spacer and yes it could be duplicated easily with some time and a die grinder. as for the spacer it was stock and fit really well to the manifold but I beveled it to clear the butterflies on the carb and countersunk the 2 screws into it for an adapter to the new mounting flange on the carb.

Hey again. I finally got some time to sit down today and happened across this thread-link- on a Mustang forum. What is written there, as well as some things I read elsewhere have me convinced enough that it is safe to eliminate coolant flow through the manifold that I am prepared to go ahead and try it myself. I don't care about keeping the manifold dry of coolant so much as I want to eliminate that line around back of the engine. I have not contacted Esslinger about their manifold yet, or for that matter done much of anything besides work on my cars, but I do still plan to.

Flamin, I would probably do what you did if I had to start over on mine. The stock spacer is a nice piece, and easy to work with. I cracked mine though, and decided to just make a phenolic replacement.

Cool...I read the thread and will look into this...

Part number for the gasket = [FONT=Verdana, Arial]Fel-Pro #-MS91806

I'm going to ask at NAPA to see if they can get it...:icon_thumby:
